Harrogate’s Cicada Communications has announced that founder, Di Burton, has passed away. She was 68.
She set up Cicada in 36 years ago in 1987 and became one of the town’s best-known business figures.
“Di was one of those people for whom tomorrow could not come quickly enough,” said her husband, Andy.
“Much of her mind was always in the future; there was always so much more to accomplish.”
Cicada said that “all of us who worked with her benefitted from her enthusiastic leadership and mentoring.”
“If you met Di, you were unlikely to forget her,” the agency stated.
“Assertive and inquisitive by nature, her infectious personality always left a lasting impression.”
In 2015, the agency was acquired by the current management team. That allowed her to exit the company, albeit to set up her own internal communications and training company, Di Burton Ltd.
She is survived by Andy, her 2 children and grandchildren.
The family has requested no flowers at the funeral, but instead for donations to either Harrogate’s Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre or Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
