Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff has received hospital treatment an accident while filming for the BBC’s Top Gear at the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome test track in Surrey.
Flintoff received medical care at the scene before being taken to a local hospital for further treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
A BBC spokesperson said: “Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning with crew medics attending the scene immediately. He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course.”
It is not the first accident Flintoff has suffered since he began presenting the show in 2019. In his first year on the show, the former England cricketer crashed into a market stall in Mansfield in February, then walked away unhurt following a crash while filming a drag race at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire.
Former presenter Richard Hammond was perhaps the motoring show’s highest profile casualty when a serious crash at the same airfield in 2006 left him in a coma.
Prior to his role on Top Gear, Flintoff was best known as an England cricketer. He played 79 Tests, 141 one-day internationals and seven T20s for England before retiring from the sport in 2009.
Top Gear, which was revived and significantly updated, from an existing 1970s show format, is one of the BBC’s most-popular, most-exported, and most-profitable shows.
