England’s men may have come home empty handed once more from a World Cup at the weekend, but Showcase Cinemas is hoping to lighten the mood with a nationwide, one-night-only screening of Lionesses: How Football Came Home.
The feature documentary, from Altitude and Ad Hoc films, charts the rise of England’s women to Euro 2022 glory over the summer.
The screenings, exclusive to Showcase Cinemas ahead of the film’s home release on December 19, will take place on Monday December 12 at 7:30pm and will feature contributions from The Lionesses’ captain Leah Williamson, stalwart Jill Scott, Mary Earps, Fran Kirby, Keira Walsh, Nikita Parris, ex-Lioness players, journalists and more.
Through touching and personal home movie footage, childhood stories and exclusive new interviews with the players, Lionesses: How Football Came Home shows us the real women behind the team now forever etched into football history.
The Lionesses reveal their journey from the playground to the national team, relive standout Euro 22 moments, explore the challenges faced by the women’s game over the last century and discuss the impact that their success could have on inspiring the next generation of players.
Jon Dixon, MD at Showcase Cinemas UK said: “We’re so excited to host an exclusive, one-night-only screening at our cinemas to tell the story of England’s historic women’s EURO 2022 victory, in their own words.
“Having shown all of England’s matches for free on our big screens in the summer, we’re extremely proud to be the only UK cinema to screen the documentary and it’s a must watch for fans nationwide. We can’t wait to see the historic journey play out on the big screen!”
Showcase Cinemas in the North of England include Leeds, Liverpool, Teeside and Derby. Tickets for Lionesses: How Football Came Home can be booked in person at your local Showcase box office or online at the Showcase Cinemas website. Check local listings for further details.
