TheBusinessDesk North West editor steps down

Begum

Shelina Begum, North West business editor at TheBusinessDesk.com, is leaving her role.

Begum is a familiar face to the regional business community having previously spent around 12 years at the Manchester Evening News, including five years as business editor, prior to her appointment at TheBusinessDesk in 2021.

Before that Begum was a North West reporter for the then-fellow-Guardian Media Group-title Asian News, where she covered stories as diverse as the 2001 Oldham riots and the 2005 Kashmir earthquake.

Begum announced her departure on LinkedIn: “After a brilliant two years with TheBusinessDesk.com I am leaving this week to pursue other interests and projects,” she said. “I’ve had a wonderful time here, and it’s been great to be back doing business journalism as well as hosting and chairing more than 100 online and in-person events since the pandemic, but the time has come for me to move on.”

Begum added that she would be devoting much of her time to her own content marketing consultancy, Shelina Begum Media, but added that the local business community could still expect to see her around, particularly in the field of diversity in business.

She said: “As for what’s next, well keep your eyes peeled.

I’m still very passionate about the region’s business community especially in the #diversity and #inclusion space, so you will definitely be seeing more of me in this area.

I’m also looking forward to going back to my content marketing consultancy so do give me a shout if you want to see what work we can do together.”
