Softcat is bringing 50 software jobs to Newcastle

Global software business Softcat will bring 50 new tech jobs to Newcastle with the launch of its ninth regional office in the UK and Eire.

The Marlowe-headquartered business already has a significant presence in the North, with existing offices in Leeds and Manchester.

The new St James Gate office is part of moves by the FTSE 250 company to continue to increase its market share across the country while accessing new talent markets for recruitment. The company cited Newcastle’s, and the wider North East’s, rich talent pool through its universities and colleges, as a a key factor in the decision to open up. Recruitment is starting for the new roles “soon.”

Softcat is a leading UK provider of IT infrastructure products and services to corporate and public sectors. The firm was established in 1993 by Peter Kelly under its original name Software Catalogue and now has 2,060 employees. The company last month announced full year results for the year to July 31 2022 in which revenues grew 37.5 per cent to £1.07bn. Operating profit also rose by 14 per cent to over £136m.

Softcat’s Ashley Bilham, head of North East region, said: “By growing our regional presence, we can not only better service our current customers but also increase our footprint nationally. We have strong coverage across the UK already however, there is a large opportunity for growth and recruitment between our Leeds and Glasgow offices.

“This new office will help us to provide a local service with a multinational portfolio of products, solutions and services both to our existing customers and new customers. Newcastle is the perfect location.”
