Popular BBC Radio Tees host Paul ‘Goffy’ Gough is quitting the radio station at the end of the year, almost a decade after he broadcast and produced his first Radio Tees show.
His decade at the North East station is just the latest chapter in a near-30 year broadcasting career. Gough began his career at Century Radio in 1994 and presented the long running Goffy In The Morning for ten years, gaining the best ever figures for the regional station. He was then headhunted by Metro Radio and TFM where he presented shows for two years on the jointly owned stations. BBC Radio Tees boss Dan Thorpe lined him up next, and he started to produce and present his own shows for the station in early 2013.
Gough said that he intends to use his new free time to focus on his own company, Goffy Media, which sees the presenter hosting events and carrying out PR and marketing work for clients.
Gough did not rule out a return to the airwaves outright, however. The star said: “I would not rule [a return] out at some point as I’ve loved my time on the radio. My listeners are close to my heart and they play a real important part in my life. You build special bonds with colleagues, just like I have done with the team at BBC Radio Tees. I will be forever grateful to them for the fantastic support and I wish them all well for the future.”
Goffy added that his current contract runs until the end of 2022 and he is looking forward to his remaining Sunday shows which air between 2pm and 4pm.
