This year’s ranking

A word about this year’s ranking.

The top 10 has witnessed a considerable amount of jostling for position in recent years, but for the last seven years, Citypress has reigned supreme at the top.

This year, however, we have a new number one. Despite another excellent year for Citypress, a truly astounding period of growth for Tangerine has seen the Manchester-headquartered agency take over at the top for the first time. Well done to them.

It’s worth remembering at this point that this is not a list that aims to find the biggest agency or necessarily the most profitable agency, but it uses instead a carefully considered algorithm – that has remained constant throughout the last few years – that seeks to identify the top agencies in a given year.

As such, a host of factors – including turnover, profit, growth and headcount – are all taken into account in pursuit of the definitive list. Whether or not we achieve that is a matter of opinion, but we are confident that there is no more rigorously compiled leading PR agencies ranking in the country, certainly in relation to the North.

Special mentions

As well as huge congratulations to Tangerine, special mention should also go to some of this year’s standout performers.

Newcastle agency Ramarketing jumps two places to break into the top three, while Manchester’s Brazen has had a real return to form, climbing 13 places to fourth.

Well done also to Yorkshire agencies Prohibition PR and Counter Context, who both rise up into the top 10. High climbers elsewhere on the list include Warrington’s No Brainer, Liverpool’s Active Profile, Huddersfield’s Scriba PR, Harrogate’s Big Bamboo Agency, Crewe’s Scott Partnership, Macclesfield’s Skout PR and Manchester’s Refresh PR.
