Euro 2022-winning Lioness and Manchester City star Lauren Hemp will guest star in tonight’s episode of Hollyoaks (E4, 7pm, Wednesday April 10).
Hemp plays herself as she coaches Kathleen-Angel’s (Kiara Mellor) football team following her Euros success. Charlie Osborne (Charlie Behan) and Ella Cunningham (Erin Palmer) are both starstruck by the experience.
The appearance came about after Hollyoaks recorded an additional scene featuring characters Nadira and Juliet celebrating England’s win the day after the Euros final.
Hemp, who revealed that her favourite Hollyoaks character is Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe), said: “I love Hollyoaks and never miss it so when they posted the scene about us on their Instagram I shared it on my story. Then my agent called and said I had been invited to come and film a scene. I can’t tell you what I replied but I shouted it down the phone! It was like a dream. I had two dreams in life and they’ve both happened in the last few weeks.”
Hemp added that she would potentially return to the soap to play a larger role in future, although seemingly not as a football coach. She said: “I’d love to come back again. I’d like to play a serial killer.”
Chester-set Hollyoaks is produced by Lime Pictures and shoots in Lime’s Liverpool studios. It has won numerous awards at the British Soap Awards, the Inside Soap Awards, and RTS recognition since it debuted on C4 in 1995.
Lauren’s cup-winning episode of the soap will debut on E4 at 7pm, Wednesday August 10 ahead of its regular 6.30pm screening on C4 on Thursday August 11.
