Actress and Strictly Come Dancing winner, Rose Ayling-Ellis will be first celebrity to use BSL for the CBeebies Bedtime Story.
Using British Sign Language, she will tell the story of a young bear and his dad as they discover and then manage deafness. Can Bears Ski? is written by Raymond Antrobus and illustrated by Polly Dunbar.
“I am super excited to read my first CBeebies Bedtime Story in British Sign Language and it’s even more wonderful to share a story written by a deaf writer,” said Ayling-Ellis.
“I hope deaf children enjoy the story and it inspires hearing children to want to learn BSL more!”
The BSL story will also be subtitled, with Ayling-Ellis only speaking to introduce the story, and afterwards to say goodnight to the audience.
It will air on 8th May to mark the end of Deaf Awareness Week.
