Biild, a product development specialist, has been launched by Sheffield-based AME Group following an existing six-figure investment.

As part of its introduction it has completed a survey of 2,000 UK adults to find more data on people’s interest in purpose-led products – those with a core mission of solving a wider problem, meeting society’s needs, or addressing the climate crisis.

The research discovered that three-quarters of people want products which are long-lasting and easily repaired, with 74% happy to pay 10.6% above the average price for items which are purpose-led.

With a specific focus on respondents from Yorkshire and Humberside, the survey ranked people’s preferences, finding that most people – nearly two-thirds – favour brands producing products designed to be repaired easily. Other preferences include products designed for recycling, reducing environmental impact, and championing inclusivity.

Tim Stern, Design Manager at biild, said: “Data from the new survey confirms that our industry and that of our clients is in the middle of a consumer revolution.

“Brands need to respond and embrace a new way of thinking, one that puts purpose rather than profit at the forefront of decisions. We understand that adapting to this new approach poses practical challenges.

“biild is our response to the environmental and societal challenges we all face with the goal of delivering positive change for a world where responsibly designed products are the expectation not the exception.”

In 2021, AME Group raised £750,000 in funding from NPIF – Mercia Equity Finance to launch a 3D printing and low volume production brand, and later in the year made two senior appointments as a result.
