The full Top 50 Integrated Agencies list – the benchmark ranking for the North of England’s best-performing agencies – has been revealed for 2022.

Once again, we collaborated with Mustard Research to independently compile this list, which identifies the leading Northern firms working across marketing specialisms. The ranking is based on factors including balance sheets, turnover, headcount and pre-tax profit.

Data for the list was confirmed directly with the companies themselves by our research partners Mustard, as well as using publicly available information at Companies House.

The vital resource provides an independent, trusted and reliable reflection of the current health of the agency sector in the North after a challenging two years.

This past year has seen some remarkable moves, including a new number one integrated agency for 2022. It is widely relied upon as a resource for brands and agencies nationwide, so congratulations to all those on the list.

Summary

We have a new number one integrated agency in the North of England. After eight years, McCann Manchester gives up its place at the top to make way for IMA HOME, the new agency formed by Intermarketing and HOME’s merger.

With the agencies previously holding fourth and fifth position, their combined efforts have catapulted them to the top. And with the previous first, second and third-placed agencies moving down one spot each, The Creative Engagement Group enters the top five.

There has been further shuffling within the top ten – with a new entry from CTI Digital, which was previously listed in the Top 50 Digital Agencies ranking, and Love Creative climbing from 10th to seventh place.

Greater Manchester holds seven of the leading 10 places in the ranking, with Leeds now commanding the top spot and Sheffield and Newcastle also represented. Otherwise, Greater Manchester agencies comprise 48% of the whole list (24 agencies), while 24% of the list hail from Leeds (12 agencies).

This year’s list features some remarkable climbers. Congratulations to Cirrus for climbing nine to number 12, and Media Agency Group who jumped 18 to be ranked at 13th. And returning to the list in an extraordinary way is DS.Emotion – 2022’s highest climber after rising 65 places to re-enter the Top 50 in 37th.

Special mentions should also go to Live & Breathe (23rd) and Zut (28th) for rising 26 and 20 spots respectively.

A range of new entries and returning names have made it into the ranking – with Ear to the Ground (16th) and Agent (46th) listed in the Top 50 for the first time, and FPP (25th), Dinosaur (34th), and SLG Agency (47th) jumping back onto the list after time away.
