Netflix has revealed the winners of its “Britain’s Not Boring…” documentary talent fund.

The streaming platform launched the Documentary Talent Fund in December 2020, encouraging new filmmakers to respond to the brief of “Britain’s Not Boring And Here’s a Story.”

It said there were “thousands of entries” from across the country, with 10 finalists receiving £40k each to make their documentaries.

The winners came from Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Northern Ireland, Scotland and London, with films about dog theft, identity, gender diversity and inclusion, conservation, and a woman with cerebral palsy’s drive to reach the 2024 Olympics.

There’s also a film about Liverpool’s Bee Whisperer:

In addition to the grant, the filmmakers took part in workshops covering all aspects of the documentary process, from legal and creative to HR, production and finance.

A spokesperson for Netflix said:

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with these talented filmmakers and to watch their ideas blossom into these fully formed documentaries. These films have been made in a year when Covid created extra challenges, and we’re immensely proud of the tenacity, grit and creativity demonstrated to get these shorts made. The final films offer an exciting glimpse into the future of UK documentary filmmaking.”
