Ricky Wilson, the lead singer of Kaiser Chiefs is presenting a new CBBC series where 27 youngsters compete to be named Britain’s Best Young Artist.

Wilson, a former art teacher, will host the show alongside Radio 1’s Vick Hope.

Made by BBC Children’s In-House Productions, it has been filmed in a warehouse studio in Bolton, as well as a number of UK locations.

“I’ve really enjoyed seeing what all the kids in the show can do and what they can do is astonishing. If I could do anything as half as good as them at that age then I’d be winning the Turner Prize,” said Wilson.

Each of the 14 x 30 minute episodes will see 3 contenders take part in an “inspiration day” to challenge their artistic skills, before returning to the Bolton studio to create a “showstopping artwork.”

The contestants will need to impress artists including Alison Lapper, Simeon Barclay, Si Mitchell, as well as celebrities Dr Alex George and former Blue Peter presenter, Lindsey Russell.

Britain’s Best Young Artist is Executive Produced by Annette Williams, with Rob Jenkinson the Series Producer. It will debut on 7th February.
