Sheffield Doc/Fest’s Festival Director, Cíntia Gil has stepped down, following “artistic differences.”
Organisers say that she left the role, which she’s held since 2019, as a result of “artistic differences over the present and future direction of the Festival with the Board of Trustees.”
“The 2020 edition was in an advanced stage of planning in late March when the UK, and most of the world, went into lockdown. Cintia led the team to convert the festival to an entirely online event in just three months, all while having to work remotely,” the statement continued.
“The Trustees are extremely grateful for Cintia’s significant contribution to the Festival over these past tough two years and wish her all the best for the future.”
Gil wrote on LinkedIn:
“I thank the Sheffield DocFest team and the programmers that have worked with me in shaping our artistic differences. Those differences help me breathe every day.”
Her departure means that its Director of Partnerships, Sylvia Bednarz, has stepped up to the role of interim Managing Director.
Before joining the Doc/Fest team in 2013, Bednarz worked in film and television production and commissioning.
