MediaCityUK-based The Composerworks’ Raphaelle Thibaut, who operates from New York, will be the composer for upcoming four-part series Secrets of the Whales, with James Cameron as its executive producer.
The series, which premieres on April 22nd – Earth Day – is narrated by Golden Globe and BAFTA winner Sigourney Weaver, produced by US-based Red Rock Films.
It will be broadcast in 43 languages on Disney+, reaching viewers in 172 countries when it is broadcast in April. Filmed over 10,000 hours across three years in 24 locations, Secrets of the Whales follows the lives of whales and their individual challenges and successes.
Thibaut is a neo-classical composer with The Composerworks who has recently worked with clients including Ubisoft, Red Bull, Herschel and Tate Modern.
Brian Armstrong, Executive Producer of Secrets of the Whales and principal filmmaker at Red Rock, said: “Raphaelle was the only [composer] from the samples I heard that seemed to be offering the heart and soul we were looking for.
“We needed someone who could compose to that emotion and work with it while still having the generosity not to overwhelm the pictures. After Raph nailed the first episode it was clear we didn’t need anyone else and we asked her to compose for all four hours.”
