Shameless creator Paul Abbott is working on a new crime drama for Sky.

The new series, called Wolfe, has been announced as part of the broadcaster’s slate of original TV shows and films this year.

Wolfe will star Babou Ceesay (Guerrilla, Rogue One) as “brilliant but flawed forensic pathologist” Professor Wolfe Kinteh, based in the North.

Also starring are Amanda Abbington (Sherlock), Natalia Tena (Harry Potter), Naomi Yang (Lilting), Adam Long (Dunkirk, Happy Valley) and Shaniqua Okwok (Small Axe).

Deadline reports that Abbott will lead a team of writers including Cat Jones, Georgia Lester, Furquan Akhtar and Freddy Syborn. Wolfe will be directed by Adrian Shergold and Sean Spencer.

Abbott, whose most recent work was No Offence for Channel 4, said the series will deliver “energy and insight with wit and attitude”.

He added: “I’ve loved creating the character of Wolfe. I dredged a lot of my own flaws to get him onto the page. I can’t think of anyone better than Babou to breathe life into the guy.”

Wolfe is set to air on both Sky One and Now TV in the autumn.
