Global Media has announced a number of job cuts as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The redundancies are expected within its Out of Home operations, which have been particularly hit by the lockdown.

“Like many businesses, due to the unprecedented circumstances and challenges precipitated by the coronavirus pandemic, we have taken the difficult decision to restructure some parts of our business,” it said in a statement.

“This will, sadly, include some people leaving the company.  These decisions are never easy.”

Global’s outdoor division has more than 253,000 sites on the transport network and in retail destinations and airports. These include the Manchester Arndale and Manchester Airport.

The cuts are not expected to be within its radio brands, which include the UK’s largest commercial stations, Capital and Heart. According to the most recent Rajar results, Heart has 9.4m weekly listeners and Capital has a reach of 7.5m.
