More4 has commissioned Leeds-based Wise Owl Films for a new factual series fronted by David Jason.

The four-part series will see the much-loved former Only Fools and Horses actor take his life-long interest in engineering and mechanics on a journey to discover the nation’s greatest inventions.

David Jason’s Great British Inventions will discover the remarkable stories behind the nation’s world-changing inventions, finding out just why they came about when they did – from the jet engine and the hovercraft, to the light bulb and the tanks of World War One.

Wise Owl Films was launched in November 2018 as a new, non-scripted label of Lime Pictures. It’s headed up by Creative Director Mark Robinson, who founded ITV Studios label Shiver in 2007.

Jason said: “From the jet engine and the hovercraft to the telephone and the tank – they’re all fascinating pieces of technology it’s hard to imagine our world without. They were all invented right here in the UK – showing we’ve always been a nation with real pioneering spirit.

“I’m looking forward to discovering the remarkable stories behind the nation’s world-changing inventions. I want to find out not just how they came about – but also why they were dreamt up at that specific moment in our history.”

Wise Owl Films’ Robinson added: “This is an exciting time to be making shows out of Yorkshire – and we’re delighted to have gone on this particular journey with the UK’s most-loved actor, showing a personal passion of Sir David’s that viewers might not be aware of.”

David Jason’s Great British Inventions is a 4 x 60’ minute series for More4 commissioned by David Sayer, Channel 4’s former Head of Daytime and overseen by Deputy Head of Features and Formats, Sean Doyle. Mark Robinson will Executive Produce while Stuart Ramsay acts as Series Producer for Wise Owls Films.
