A sixth series of Peaky Blinders seems to have been confirmed after the production team behind the hit BBC One drama established a base at studios in Manchester.

The BBC has yet to officially confirm whether the Birmingham-set series is returning, but creator Steven Knight has said he has been working on the storyline.

Caryn Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect Drama produces the drama for BBC One, and unofficial confirmation of series six appears to have arrived with the news that it has set up a production base at Space Studios, the 850,000 sq ft facility in Gorton in Manchester. Filming is likely to begin later this year.

The finale of season five, which aired in August, attracted a record audience of 3.84 million. The first four episodes of the drama – which stars Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory – averaged 5.9m in seven-day consolidated viewing across all screens.

Recent drama productions at Space Studios include Mammoth Screen’s World On Fire, which opened to last Sunday on BBC One, Studio Lambert’s The Feed for Amazon/Virgin Originals and Warp Film’s Little Birds for Sky One.
