As Sheffield United returns to the Premier League, BBC Radio Sheffield has signed a 2 year commentary deal with the club.

Starting next season, it’s the first time in more than 10 years that the Blades have been in the top flight and the BBC will provide exclusive radio commentary for all home and away games.

“BBC Radio Sheffield has had a long and successful relationship with Sheffield United and I am delighted that this will continue for another two years,” said Katrina Bunker, Editor of BBC Radio Sheffield.

“Of course this season carries extra interest not just for Blades fans but for our wider region as we have a team back in the top tier of English football for the first time in 12 years. With visits to the likes of Old Trafford, Anfield, Stamford Bridge and much more now coming up we want our listeners to be part of the whole journey which is why we’ve taken the decision to commit to providing full match commentary of every single game. We can’t wait to get started!”

The commentary team will be Andy Giddings, Adam Oxley and Mike McCarthy with Sheffield United legend Keith Edwards acting as summariser.

“We are delighted to be continuing our excellent relationship with the team at BBC Radio Sheffield. Over the years they have provided a great service to Blades fans in and around the city, as well supplying the commentary for those further afield through United’s official website, and we look forward to taking their listeners on our Premier League journey,” added Stephen Bettis, CEO of Sheffield United FC
