Barclays is to cut hundreds of jobs at its Leeds site, including technology roles.
The bank told 280 employees at its Millshaw Court base this morning that their roles were at risk, with around 115 of them relocating to Manchester, Liverpool and Sunderland.
The landlord at Millshaw Court has also decided to put the site up for sale having secured planning permission for residential development.
Barclays said it had secured a three-year extension to the lease until November 2021, and that it would keep the remaining staff “regularly informed as we explore alternative sites”.
Barclays currently employs around 1,100 staff at Millshaw Court who handle mortgage cases, lending operations and customer complaints, out of a total workforce of 12,000 across the North.
Barclays expects the redundancy process – affecting customer relations, virtual channels, technology and business change operations roles – to conclude at the end of May.
It’s understood that no decision has yet been taken about whether Barclays will remain in Leeds once its lease expires in 2021.
