Atomhawk has created 60 images for a narrative adventure game commemorating the hundredth anniversary of the Armistice.

11-11: Memories Retold is a collaboration between Aardman, Digixart and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe and follows 2 men from either side of the conflict.

The Gateshead studio was brought in to replicate the “expressive painterly art style” of the game, which Bandai Namco described as “a gigantic living painting depicting what it means to be drawn into war.”

“Recreating an impressionist style was definitely a departure from the usual digital concept art clients come to us for,” explained Atomhawk’s principal artist, Charlie Bowater.

“We focused on using broad brush strokes, strong colours and atmospheric use of light to create illustrations that would communicate the mood of the time and add to the emotional effect of the game.”

Bowater said that her team drew inspiration from Monet, Turner and Peterhof to bring the scenes to life.
