BBC Sports Editor Dan Roan has apologised for off-air comments he made about Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the Leicester City owner who died in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
Roan’s remarks were picked up by microphones close to a memorial to Srivaddhanaprabha and four fellow passengers at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.
Roan was heard speaking off-camera to a colleague when he was heard to say: “‘As opposed to the mistress who died in the crash, otherwise known as “member of staff”, i.e. “mistress”.”
Roan, who has been Sports Editor since 2014, later apologised on Twitter.
