Games developer sets up Newcastle studio

Gamevy is to open a studio in Newcastle, with plans to create up to 30 new jobs.

The company, which is a licensed supplier and operator of real-money games already has offices in London, Berlin and Bilbao.

It was inspired to make the move following an invite to the 1UP North gaming festival, part of the Great Exhibition of the North.

“We have an exceptional tech team – and it means we’re only ever looking for exceptional people to join us. We were really impressed by the people we met in Newcastle and we’re convinced that we’re going to build a vibrant, entrepreneurial games studio here,” explained Dan Rough, chief operating officer at Gamevy.

Rough said they hoped to employ up to 30 people over the next 2 years.

“The fact that this already successful company has decided to set up a presence here is testament to the strength of the digital and tech sectors in this city. It is also a fitting legacy for the Great Exhibition of the North, the aim of which was to promote all that is great about the north and this city to the outside world,” stated Cllr Kim McGuiness, cabinet member for culture, sport and public health at Newcastle City Council.
