Horsfield to premiere new BBC One drama at Salford’s Lowry Theatre

Age Before Beauty

Acclaimed Salford writer Debbie Horsfield is to premiere her new BBC One drama ‘Age Before Beauty’ in the city.

Horsfield, who is from Eccles, has produced work including global hit Poldark and hairdressing drama Cutting It and appeared in the Prolific North Top 50 Scriptwriters of 2018. Her new series will be screened for the first time on Thursday July 26th at The Lowry in Salford, followed by an interview with BBC Radio 5 live’s Anna Foster.

Age Before Beauty is a family saga set in a beauty salon in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. The cast includes Sue Johnston (Downton Abbey), Lisa Riley (Three Girls), Robson Green (Grantchester), Polly Walker (Mr Selfridge), James Murray (Him) Kelly Harrison (The Level) and Vicky Myers (The Five).

The series explores age, instant gratification and long-term relationships in the beauty industry and was filmed in locations across Manchester in 2017. It will be shown on BBC One later this summer and has been made by Mainstreet Pictures.

Horsfield said: “Age Before Beauty is set in Manchester’s Northern Quarter and was filmed entirely in the city. Manchester is an integral part of the story and I’m thrilled that it will be premiered at The Lowry, in my hometown, where Manchester people will see it first.

“Apply for your tickets now and come along to take part in the Q&A. We all had a ball filming in Manchester and I really hope you have as much fun watching it as we did making it.”

Debbie’s Poldark series has been a global success, with the fourth series currently airing on BBC One. Her previous series Cutting It was a smash hit and featured Manchester hairdressers. Her other work includes Making Out, The Riff Raff Element and Sex, Chips & Rock n’ Roll which was adapted for stage at the Royal Exchange, Manchester.

The premiere is on Thursday 26th July at 7pm at The Lowry, Salford. The minimum age for attendees is 14 and 80% of tickets will be distributed to Manchester postcodes.

The Age Before Beauty premiere is brought to The Lowry by the BBC in the North and Royal Television Society North West.
