Charles Lauder has been appointed as the Indie Club’s first CEO.
He joins the organisation following its relaunch as a trade body for indies, facility companies and programme makers.
Lauder is a film, television and theatre director, having worked on Coronation Street and Channel 4 series, Porkpie. He was chair of Manchester theatre, Contact and recently ran a consultancy company, Talawa. At ITV, he set up the Positive Action Bursary Scheme, one of the industry’s first initiatives to promote diversity, which provided funding for post-graduate minority ethnic students.
His arrival at Indie Club was announced at the Children’s Media Conference in Sheffield.
“Being industry led and based outside London will ensure the authenticity of the Indie Club’s voice,” he stated.
“I relish the opportunity to help grow and support sustainable production ecologies in the nations and regions. This will be good for the broadcasting industry, good for regional economies and ultimately, good for the country. Talented diverse young programme makers from around the country will have the chance to flourish and develop without feeling it’s impossible to pursue a career unless you can afford to live in London.”
The Indie Club will launch on 10th September at an event in MediaCityUK.
