His new role will be to develop a strategy to capture and tell the best stories the city region has to offer. The role is funded by the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership and supports Manchester’s ambition to be a top 20 global city by 2035.

As well as creating and managing new content, Donohue will develop partnerships with Greater Manchester organisations and facilitate collaboration on content demonstrating the business, culture and lifestyle benefits of being based within the region.

Lou Cordwell, a member of the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership board, said: “Capturing and sharing the many positive stories of success within Greater Manchester will be incredibly powerful in demonstrating the compelling reasons to visit and invest in the city region.

“The role of Manchester Content Curator will help to reinforce perceptions of Greater Manchester as a globally significant centre of business, culture and digital innovation, while supporting the city region in achieving a greater share of voice in national campaigns supporting the UK as a whole. I am excited to see Greater Manchester making the most of its distinctive story and content.”

Donohue added: “I am passionate about living and working in Greater Manchester and excited to be supporting Marketing Manchester and the GM LEP. This role will provide an opportunity for me to ensure that as many people as possible know that Greater Manchester is a fantastic place to invest, visit, meet and study. I look forward to collaborating with the many organisations whose work shows Greater Manchester in a positive light.”

Libby Howard, MD of Intelligent Conversation, said: “Simon leaves Intelligent Conversation with our very best wishes for his new role. While we are sorry to see him go, we understand that the opportunity for a passionate Mancunian to tell Manchester’s positive stories to the world makes this his dream job.

“In his three and a half years with us, Simon has made an important contribution to the agency and he leaves a lasting legacy. He has been a popular member of a highly talented team.

“We will be keeping a close link with Simon in the new role and we hope to work with him to share some of our own clients’ fantastic success stories on the global stage.”

Prior to his career in PR, Donohue worked for the MEN for 15 years on their business and features desks, latterly as deputy business editor and editor of the standalone weekly title Greater Manchester Business Week.
