Programmes including The One Show, Blue Peter and Woman’s Hour will come live from Sheffield next month to mark the BBC’s coverage of the World Snooker Championships.
Cue Sheffield will also see Radio 5 live’s Fighting Talk come from the city – presented by Josh WIddicombe – while snooker legend Steve Davis will co-host BBC 6 Music’s Sunday Service with Jarvis Cocker, Ken Bruce on BBC Radio 2 will broadcast live from the Winter Garden and Steve Lamacq will broadcast a special 6 Music event live from the Leadmill.

The BBC will present comprehensive coverage of the snooker across TV, Red Button and online, hosted by Hazel Irvine and Jason Mohammad.
The pair will be joined in their Winter Garden studio by guests including snooker legends Steve Davis, John Parrott , Stephen Hendry, Ken Doherty with Terry Griffiths, John Virgo, Willie Thorne and Dennis Taylor on commentary duties.

“It’s the latest in a long line of brilliant BBC output from Yorkshire, including unmissable TV dramas like Happy Valley and The Syndicate, plus teams working flat out to cover this huge county’s thrilling sporting life, from The Tour de France to World Championship Snooker, plus we are back in June for Sheffield Doc/Fest. It’s great that Yorkshire is playing a bigger and bigger role in all things BBC.”
BBC Get Inspired will also be laying on a range of free sporting activities in and around the Winter Garden from Friday 1 May to Monday 4 May. Confirmed events include the Snooker-Football mash-up ‘Snookball’, a climbing wall and a chance to experience a virtual cycle of the Tour de Yorkshire.
This will be the 38th year that the World Snooker Championships have taken place in the city’s Crucible Theatre, and the 30th year since the nailbiting final in 1985 when Steve Davis lost to Dennis Taylor after missing the black ball.
