Digital twins: Daiser lands partnership with key government-funded AI healthcare hub

Daiser, the newly created modular digital health platform, has announced its appointment as a strategic partner to the UK’s foremost organisation on the understanding and development of AI and digital health advancement.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) EdgeAI Hub’s new partnership with Daiser will see the two investigate ways of leveraging edge AI technologies and their development of ‘digital twins’ and AI agents. The collaboration is aimed at addressing the unique privacy and security challenges in digital healthcare.

Since launch in 2024, North East-based Daiser has placed itself at the forefront of digital healthcare innovation, creating a dynamic health system that organises resources around individuals rather than solely focusing on specific health conditions.

Digital twins and AI agents – virtual replicas of physical entities – are seen as a route to better digital mapping, understanding and, importantly, predicting real-life healthcare issues. By integrating these in their own solutions, Daiser’s platform is enabling  healthcare providers to deliver personalised, proactive, and data-driven care to patients, while streamlining workflows and reducing administrative burdens.

The ESPRC’s EdgeAI Hub is dedicated to uniting the UK’s expertise in artificial intelligence and edge computing across academia, industry, and the public sector. Its mission is to foster a collaborative research community that enhances data quality and decision accuracy across various time-critical applications, including healthcare.

This collaboration aims to harness edge AI to develop innovative solutions that address critical privacy and security concerns inherent in healthcare. By deploying AI closer to data sources, the partnership seeks to enhance data quality, ensure patient confidentiality, and improve the resilience of healthcare systems against cyber threats.

“Partnering with the EdgeAI Hub aligns perfectly with Daiser’s commitment to empowering health and care providers through advanced digital solutions,” said Mike Trenell, CEO and co-founder at Daiser. “Together, we can create AI-driven tools that not only personalise patient care but also uphold the highest standards of privacy and security.”

Professor Rajiv Ranjan, Director of the EdgeAI Hub, added, “Collaborating with Daiser allows us to apply our research in edge AI to real-world healthcare challenges. This partnership is a significant step toward developing secure, efficient, and patient-centric healthcare solutions.”

The joint efforts will focus on creating digital twins and AI agents that can learn, adapt, and provide valuable insights to healthcare professionals, researchers, and patients. These technologies are expected to revolutionise patient care by enabling more accurate diagnostics, personalized treatment plans, and continuous health monitoring, all while ensuring data privacy and security.
