Reach appoints first female CRO

Reach, the UK’s biggest regional publisher and owner of titles including the Manchester Evening News and Liverpool Echo, has announced that Emma Callaghan has been appointed chief revenue officer on a permanent basis, following Piers North’s appointment as chief executive last month.

North’s appointment followed the departure of former CEO Jim Mullen, who oversaw around 350 job cuts over the last two years at Reach, and departed the Mirror and Express publisher for a new role at The Jockey Club.

North said: “As I told the teams when Emma first took on the interim role, she is both well connected and well respected with our major media agencies and hugely passionate about our brands and the role they play for our advertisers and our communities.

“She has embraced the challenge in this first month and I know will do a great job leading the acceleration of our digital revenue growth across advertising and all our revenue streams.”

Callaghan added: “It’s such a privilege to take on the chief revenue officer role and to lead this talented commercial team as we continue to build a stronger and more diverse revenue mix.”

“I was fortunate to attend the inaugural Reach Celebrating Brilliant Journalism awards in Manchester last night and as always, it was inspiring to see up close how much our journalism means to its communities and audiences. I’m fuelled every day by ensuring our commercial efforts sustain this work.”

Emma started her career on the agency side with PHD and joined Reach, then Trinity Mirror, in 2015. She held a number of senior roles before most recently taking the role of executive director of advertising and strategy. She will continue to report directly to North and will join the executive management team permanently.
