From Shameless to a Bible story for Threlfall

David Threlfall in What Remains Actor David Threlfall, best known as the drug-addled waster Frank Gallagher in Channel 4’s Shameless, is to play Noah in a new BBC drama, it has been revealed.

According to the in-house publication Ariel, the 60-year-old Manchester-born actor started filming The Ark in Morocco this week.

He said the writer’s take on the Biblical flood story “jumped off the page at me from the first reading.”

“It’s not just a family saga but the first family saga. It takes its inspiration from many faiths and speaks of values which should be shared across all cultures. It was something I immediately wanted to be part of.”

Jamaica Inn‘s Joanne Whalley will be playing Noah’s wife, Emmie in the programme penned by EastEnders writer Tony Jordan.

Threlfall, who most recently starred in the Itv biopic as comedian Tommy Cooper was also seen in the BBC1 whodunit, What Remains, created by Tony Basgallop, the writer behind Inside Men and Worried About The Boy.
