Brand, marketing and communications specialist Definition has strengthened its board with the appointment of a new chair and a series of key promotions.
Martin Boddy, Jaywing founder and experienced portfolio NED, takes on the role of chair. With considerable experience in M&A, Boddy brings a strong track record of agency growth and transformation over the last twenty years, particularly in harnessing data to improve commercial performance. He is currently chair of private-equity-backed Dark Matter Commerce and Money Alive, as well as privately owned Gplants.

Alongside Boddy’s appointment, Definition has made several internal promotions to bolster its board and better reflect its specialisms. Katy Bloomfield and Jennie Gerry join the board as managing partners of PR and brand respectively. Gerry will focus on client services and growth in the business’ new integrated brand practice, working alongside fellow managing partner Neil Taylor, who now leads the business’ creative team.
As part of the changes, Definition’s finance director Rachel Griffin, and co-founder and chief client officer Louise Vaughan, have been promoted to Co-CEOs.
Definition has over 300 clients worldwide, ranging from start-ups and scale-ups to global household names and the public sector, including the likes of Amazon, ABB, Lego, Honda, HSBC and The Cabinet Office.

Louise Vaughan, co-CEO of Definition said: “Appointing someone of Martin’s calibre as our new Chair not only underlines how far we’ve come on our growth journey, but also the ambition that drives us.
“Martin’s expertise, combined with our newly strengthened board, positions us perfectly to capitalise on the specialisms we have across brand, marketing and comms, as well as to develop integrated products and services that deliver unforgettable impact for our clients.”
Boddy added: “Definition has already established itself as one of the UK’s most exciting independent agencies, having acquired a series of highly specialist consultancies who bring brands to life – inside and outside organisations. I can’t wait to get cracking with the talented team at Definition to drive the business forward and explore new opportunities.”
The appointments follow a significant period of growth and transformation for Definition. The business won 50 new clients in 2024 including Amazon, Campari, Orange, Save the Children, Linklaters, TransPennine Express, and The NEC. Over 60 of its 300 clients are now buying multiple services from the business, which Definition says underlines the value of its buy-and-build strategy.
The company was the first UK agency to launch a secure, multi-platform AI suite for clients, spanning the world’s most powerful language, image, audio and motion models. Several clients globally are now using it as part of their marketing operations to enhance the speed and impact of their work.
