North West-based Nexer Digital has partnered with The University of Cambridge to launch a new digital platform designed to transform health and safety management across the university’s departments.
The Safety Hub provides a centralised resource to improve risk recording, standardise safety practices, and clarify responsibilities, making the university a safer place to work, study, and visit.
By placing users at the heart of the design process, the platform ensures that safety tools and information are intuitive, accessible, and tailored to meet the needs of all staff and departments.
Built on the University’s existing Microsoft technology, the Safety Hub simplifies how departments handle health and safety tasks. From recording hazards to sharing guidance, the platform offers tools that reduce administrative burdens while enhancing transparency and accountability. Features such as a searchable Safety Library, a Role Register to track departmental safety contacts, and a Risk Reporting Tool empower staff to identify and address risks effectively.
Nexer Digital’s user-centred approach was pivotal to the hub’s development. Through extensive research and collaboration, the design team ensured the platform addressed real-world challenges faced by users. Feedback gathered during testing shaped the final product, resulting in a tool that is not only functional but also easy to navigate and understand.
Alex Blandford, head of product at The University of Cambridge, said: “We loved working with Nexer Digital as they brought patience and experience. They put together a proper multidisciplinary team and took our subject matter experts with them to build something that met our requirements and, more importantly, centred on users’ needs.”
Lee Emery, product and optimisation team lead at Nexer Digital, added: “We’re proud to have worked with the University of Cambridge on this user-focused project. The Safety Hub demonstrates how technology and thoughtful design can come together to tackle complex challenges, making a meaningful difference for organisations and their people. By providing a single, user-friendly and accessible platform for safety resources, tools, and insights, we’re empowering staff and departments to work more effectively and build a stronger safety culture.”
