Two new radio stations in the North of England have been given community radio licences by Ofcom.
Cando FM in Barrow in Furness is aimed at 16-40 year olds, while Koast Radio will provide services to the town of Ashington in south east Northumberland.
Koast has been broadcasting since 2010 and is based at the North Easton Colliery Community Centre in the town.
“Our team have worked painstakingly hard and tirelessly to do all we can for the South East Northumberland Area. We are proud of our team and to support the Three Legends in reviving their evening talk in show,” said a spokesperson.
“We have helped a raft of people and have great support from local organisations. Our programming is wide ranging and varied, we are all volunteers. We have a passion for our area, and the people in it. We want to make our area the best it can be.”
Cando FM is broadcast from Furness College and is staffed by college students and local pupils.
Both have been given a 5 year licence.
