Dua Lipa and The News Agents podcast producers move to Sheffield

Persephonica has established its first bricks and mortar headquarters, in Sheffield.

The company will keep its London base, but the majority of its 14 staff will now be based in South Yorkshire.

Persephonica makes podcasts including Dua Lipa: At Your Service and Miss Me with Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver. It also helped Global’s The News Agents become one of the country’s most popular podcasts and recently launched Political Currency, hosted by Ed Balls and George Osborne.

“We hope Persephonica’s HQ will be more than an office. Our ambition is to create a world-leading podcasting hub in South Yorkshire. As well as producing some of the UK’s biggest shows from Sheffield, we want to nurture new ideas and talent – to create the future stars of the industry,” said co-founders, Dino Sofos and Thomas O’Hara.

“We are passionate about diversifying the media. Talented people from lower income backgrounds often struggle to get a foot on the ladder because they can’t afford to do free work experience or freelance on low wages while paying high rents in London. It means people growing up in the South East have an unfair advantage at securing interesting and influential media jobs. The best way to change the status quo is to create more opportunities outside the capital. We will be offering internships, training and workshops, and we look forward to meeting students from all the great media and journalism courses in South Yorkshire.”

The pair are Sheffield natives and have based the business at the historic Leahs Yard in the city.

“Sheffield means the world to us. It’s where we were born and raised. The city and its incredible people have inspired us throughout our lives, and we hope we can now add to the city’s rich cultural tapestry through our own work – Made In Sheffield,” they added.
