Alma’s Not Normal returns this autumn

Sophie Willan’s Bolton-comedy, Alma’s Not Normal, is set to return to the BBC this autumn.

The 6 x 30 episodes centre on Alma and her family of “eccentric, unruly women.” It was created by Willan in 2018 when she was inaugural winner of the BBC’s Caroline Aherne Bursary Award.

It’s very much Willan’s vehicle, as she not only writes, but stars and executive produces the show.

It was commissioned by Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy Commissioning. The Executive Producer for Expectation is Nerys Evans and the Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Emma Lawson.

BBC Studios, which has a minority investment stake in Expectation, is handling international distribution.
