For those who haven’t Googled Greggs today, well, let’s just say the logo probably isn’t what the marketing team originally thought up, when they went for the “quality over price” rebrand.
Due to certain search algorithms, Google doesn’t show the official Greggs logo, instead an image is sourced from Wikipedia parody page uncyclopedia.wikia.com.
The Newcastle-based firm has issued a formal complaint to the search giant and asked them to rectify it as a matter of urgency – although several hours later it still hasn’t been done.
Its social media team has been working overtime, not least because dozens of digital “experts” have been pointing the issue out to them since early this morning.
But looking at the response its been getting, a potentially damaging attack on its brand appears have taken a positive turn.
We have asked Greggs for a quote about their handling of the situation, but they haven’t got back yet – probably on the phone to Google.
